Mario's Picross has different borders if you press start, or Left + Start, or Up + Start, or Right + Start, or Down + Start, or a clockwise motion and Start. Jack no Daibouken: Daimaou no Gyakushuu has a border, while the USA version (Quest: Brian's Journey) does not.
That's because the USA version cut the ending and one of the borders appeared in the ending. TNN Outdoor Fishing has 9 borders, but the Japanese version -Super Black Bass Pocket 3- has 10. Tetris 2 has borders, but only if you pause the game and press A. Blaster Master Enemy Below has a border in the USA version, but not in the Japanese one. And there might be some games that even have unused borders hidden inside the game's code, some have been found, some have not. I might have missed a few borders for games that require you to get to certain areas before a new border is triggered. So far, there are over 800 border images! I decided to take it upon myself to snap'em all. So, inspired in one part byĪnd in another part by the guys from the Hardcore Gaming 101 Forums, I realized that there wasn't any place on the ol' Internet to find all of these often overlooked pieces of game screenshot trivia.
Most games only had one border, but some could load multiple borders depending on your location in the game (take a look at the Dragon Warrior 1&2 ones). A lot of these borders are simply gorgeous.
